Hello and welcome to the second in our series of 7 posts on the 7 main Chakras. This series will cover each Chakra one by one. Each post follows the same structure and can work as a reference as well as a learning resource.
This second post will cover the Sacral Chakra, or Svadhisthana in Sanskrit.
Color - Leafs - Element
The Sacral Chakra is associated with the color orange or vermillion, is symbolized by a 6 leafed lotus, and is associated with the Water element.
Overview of this chakra
The Sacra Chakral, or Svadhisthana, is the second of the 7 main Chakras. It is located just above the Root Chakra (two finger-widths), so just above the base of the spine, or coccyx, and just below the belly button.
Similar to the Muladhara, this chakra is considered to be related to material reality. It is often associated with creativity, desire and pleasure and is blocked by feelings of guilt.
The Svadhisthana is considered to be associated with reproduction, or the genitals, and the tongue, or sense of taste.
Each one of the 7 Chakras is said to be associated with some organ in the body. In the case of the Sacral chakra, this is considered to be the ovaries or testes, and so responsible for managing the balance of hormones in our body associated with these organs.
When this chakra is in balance one is said to have deep meaningful emotions and a sense of acceptance in all things.
When this chakra is overactive some, or many of the following may occur
Living in a fantasy world
Prone to or attracted to drama
Dark feelings or emotions
Dependent on others
A feeling of disconnection
May suffer from one or more addictions
Unhealthy self-image (deluded, arrogant, dysmorphia etc)
Overactive sex drive
When this chakra is underactive some, or many of the following may occur.
Lack of creativity
Sluggishness or laziness
Low sex drive
Feelings of 'trying to fit in'
Not able to manifest or turn ideas into a reality
Physical issues associated with this Chakra
Some common physical issues when this Chakra is imbalanced are:
Lower back pain/problems
Birth, fertility, reproductive
These can be any conditions or issues in these areas
How to balance
As with all the chakras, we can do a variety of things to balance them.
In the case of Svadhisthana, the following may help.
Nuts and seeds
Any creative pursuit (painting, drawing, writing etc)
Moonlight e.g moonlight walks
Purusha & Prakriti
The Svadhisthana Chakra is important to work. When talking about Kundalini energy, it is considered a hard Chakra to raise the energy through, as there are some powerful sexual desires one must overcome. This is why many of the Tantric rituals of a somewhat sexual nature are considered to be only suitable to those of high spiritual attainment.
I hope you have learned something here and that you have a great rest of your day.
Thanks for reading, and be happy!
